Pranab India's first Bengali President
Delhi, July 22 : Pranab Mukherjee is the first-ever Bengali to become President of India, after winning the presidential elections by a landslide margin. Of the 733 valid votes of MPs counted, Mukherjee had got 527 with a value of 373,116 and his only rival PA Sangma bagged 206 votes with a value of 145,848, according to NDTV. The official result was announced on the website of Press Trust of India (PTI). The ruling Congress party named Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as its nominee for President .....Details |

Syria conflict: Rebels seize Turkey, Iraq border posts |

Iran denies Israeli claims on Bulgaria attack |

19 July : Iran's state TV is rejecting accusations of Tehran's involvement in an apparent suicide attack against Israeli tourists in Bulgaria that killed at least eight people. On the TV website, Iran questions the claims by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and others as ridiculous and sensational. The website described the Israeli charges as attempts to discredit Iran and its allies such as Syria. There have been no official statements by Iranian authorities since the Wednesday attack in the Black Sea city of Burgas. London arrival for Olympic flame |

London 21 July : The Olympic flame has arrived in the host city in dramatic style, being abseiled into the Tower of London from a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter at the fitting time of 20:12 BST. The Sea King took off from Guildford at the end of day 63 of the torch relay. Earlier, a 17-year-old was arrested after trying to grab the flame as the torch relay passed.....Details |
